JEPPESEN ADDS TO ROBUST WEATHER SERVICES LINEUP WITH NEW WINTER WEATHER MOSAIC
Jeppesen has added a Winter Weather Mosaic to its comprehensive lineup of weather products. This new offering depicts NEXRAD radar base reflectivity in three distinct color palettes, so users can quickly and accurately identify areas of rain, snow, and freezing rain or mixed rain and snow.
The Winter Radar Mosaic distinguishes these various weather phenomena by using a sophisticated algorithm that incorporates NEXRAD base reflectivity returns, surface precipitation reports, surface temperature and dew point temperature reports, and other weather model inputs. Rain appears as green, yellow or red; freezing rain and/or mixed rain and snow appears in shades of pink; and snow appears in shades of blue.
The maps are created and updated every six minutes based on the latest NEXRAD updates and are offered for the entire U.S. as well as six smaller U.S. regions. The Winter Radar Mosaics are available through JetPlan.com, JetPlanner, FliteStar and OPSControl. Using these applications, historic Winter Radar Mosaic images can be looped, giving users a clear picture of precipitation movement, and changes in the intensity and type of the precipitaion falling within storm systems.
Our customers are finding the Winter Radar Mosaic very useful as snow, rain and freezing rain each present unique operational challenges, said Mike Cetinich, product manager, Jeppesen Weather Services. With this new weather map, Jeppesen weather users have yet another situational awareness tool at their disposal.
