FreeFlight Systems and ACSS Partner to Perform Upgrades

FreeFlight Systems has contracted with Aviation Communication and Surveillance Systems to provide Global Positioning Systems to 23 Aero California DC-9 aircraft. This system will allow for satellite navigation and provide position information to ACSS’s Terrain and Traffic Collision Avoidance System through use of the FreeFlight Systems 2101 I/O GPS Navigator with recently certified Terrain Awareness Warning System software.

T2CAS is an avionics safety system that combines the TAWS with the Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS). T2CAS is the only TAWS that provides avoidance alerts based on the aircraft’s actual ability to climb. When combined with a TAWS-compatible GPS like the FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus, the T²CAS gives operators of airline, air transport, regional, or military aircraft more time to clear terrain and traffic with an increased margin to maneuver.

The FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus is a Dzus rail mounted GPS built for the rigors of commercial installations. Approved for enroute, terminal and approach IFR operations, the 2101 I/O meets the requirements of 8110.60 for primary means oceanic navigation. It is approved for European B-RNAV and is being upgraded to meet the requirements of European P-RNAV. TAWS software upgrades are available for existing 2101 I/O systems, and hardware upgrades are available for all 2101 GPS systems, formerly manufactured by Trimble Navigation.
